The latest update from Manchester United confirms that Matheus Cunha does not have a serious injury, providing some reassurance to the Red Devils ahead of their congested fixture schedule.
According to Centre Devils, the club has confirmed the condition of Matheus Cunha is better than initially feared. The 26-year-old Brazilian forward has begun light upper body training at Carrington as part of his recovery process. “We will assess them (Mount and Cunha). We really need these players to perform well”, said coach Ruben Amorim after the match against Burnley.
Cunha suffered a hamstring injury in MU’s 3-2 victory over Burnley, a match decided by Bruno Fernandes’ last-minute penalty. A sprint chasing a loose ball forced him to stop abruptly and leave the pitch in the first half. The image of him heading straight to the tunnel sparked concerns about a long-term injury. However, the examination results showed it was not serious.
Nonetheless, Manchester United has not disclosed the exact extent of the injury. The club stated that the next few days will be crucial in determining the recovery plan and his return timeline. He is expected to miss the Brazil national team call-up but the Red Devils hope to have him available for the Manchester derby in two weeks.
This new signing was United’s first acquisition in the summer transfer window, followed by Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko joining to strengthen the attack under Ruben Amorim. Before arriving at Old Trafford, Cunha made a mark at Wolverhampton Wanderers with 17 goals and 6 assists last season, establishing himself as an experienced striker in the Premier League. “We believe he can quickly regain his form”, an insider revealed.
Cunha’s injury coincided with Mason Mount leaving the field early due to fitness issues, raising concerns about squad depth. Although his return date is uncertain, Cunha’s lack of a serious injury reassures coach Amorim and fans, especially as Man United needs all their best players to maintain their competitive ambitions.
On his personal social media, Cunha also reassured supporters: “It’s a wonderful environment, great to be here. I will be back soon, always happy and grateful. Thanks everyone for the messages.”
If recovery goes well, Matheus Cunha could return just in time for the biggest match of the first half of the season, where the Red Devils will rely on his goal-scoring instincts and dynamism to face Manchester City.
