The total spending in the 2025 summer football transfer window exceeded 10 billion euros, with the Premier League surpassing 3.5 billion euros and Serie A being the only other league to exceed 1 billion euros.

Football is fundamentally a financial game; while money alone doesn't ensure titles, without it, success is out of reach. In the last three seasons, affluent clubs such as Manchester City and PSG have secured Champions League trophies. The Premier League’s revenue boom has led to bigger transfer expenditures, with even teams fighting relegation spending at levels matching elite clubs in other leagues, reinforcing the Premier League’s dominance.

After the closure of the summer transfer window in the five major leagues, Transfermarkt released a poster showing that the total expenditure in football’s 2025 summer window has exceeded 10 billion euros, with detailed figures as follows:10.23 billion euros— this amount marks the highest spending ever recorded in a single transfer window in football history, making the 2025 summer window truly a once-in-a-century event.

Spending breakdown by major leagues in the 2025 summer window:

  • 1st place: Premier League, spending 3.56 billion euros, a massive lead over others.
  • 2nd place: Serie A, spending 1.19 billion euros, one of only two leagues to exceed 1 billion euros.
  • 3rd place: Bundesliga, spending 851 million euros, disadvantaged in number with 18 teams but still outspending La Liga.
  • 4th place: La Liga, spending 681 million euros, with only the Madrid giants showing strong buying power while other clubs lag significantly.
  • 5th place: Ligue 1, spending 636 million euros, also with 18 teams and fewer in number, otherwise could rival La Liga.
  • 6th place: Saudi Pro League, spending 473 million euros, the strongest buying power outside the big five leagues.
  • 7th place: Primeira Liga, spending 334 million euros.
  • 8th place: Süper Lig, spending 315 million euros.
  • 9th place: EFL Championship, spending 309 million euros.
