On September 4th, the Thailand national team will begin their campaign at King’s Cup 2025 with a friendly match against Fiji. As a traditional tournament in Thai football, coach Masatada Ishii’s squad is certainly aiming for a victory to meet fans’ expectations. In terms of strength and class, Fiji is considered significantly weaker.
Fiji’s head coach, Christophe Gamel Rodu, also acknowledged the big gap between the two teams, especially in the FIFA rankings where the difference is 48 places. However, he emphasized that this does not diminish his players’ fighting spirit: “We know Thailand is a well-organized and cohesive team. But Fiji’s determination remains unchanged. What we have trained will be applied right from the opening match,” Coach Rodu stressed.
On the other hand, coach Masatada Ishii has conducted thorough research and provided detailed analysis of the opponent: “Fiji is a team that strives to control the game, focusing on passing and solid defense. However, we will concentrate on pressing and maximizing our strengths to deliver a strong performance against Fiji,” the Thailand team’s coach stated.
Overall, Thailand is clearly superior to Fiji. If they perform to their potential, the hosts are likely to achieve a convincing win in their opening match.
