U23 Vietnam extends its remarkable streak at Viet Tri Stadium

The win over U23 Bangladesh marked both a strong start for coach Kim Sang-sik’s squad and a continuation of Vietnam’s outstanding achievements at Viet Tri Stadium.

In recent years, Viet Tri Stadium has become a special source of motivation for Vietnam’s teams. During the 2024 AFF Cup, the Vietnam national team won all four matches here, defeating Indonesia, Myanmar, Singapore, and Thailand, laying a solid foundation for their Southeast Asian championship after a six-year wait.

Previously, at the 2021 SEA Games 31, Viet Tri Stadium witnessed a historic moment when U23 Vietnam performed spectacularly in the group stage and secured the SEA Games gold medal after a dramatic semifinal, paving the way for their final victory at My Dinh Stadium.

Not only U23, but Vietnam’s youth teams have also frequently shone here. In the 2024 AFC U23 qualifiers, Coach Troussier’s squad remained unbeaten to top their group. Meanwhile, the U17 team overcame a tough group with Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, and Yemen to qualify for the 2025 AFC U17 Championship, all taking place at Viet Tri Stadium.

The 2-0 win over U23 Bangladesh not only temporarily put U23 Vietnam at the top but also helped the team extend the unbeaten streak of Vietnamese teams at Viet Tri Stadium to 15 consecutive matches (13 wins, 2 draws) since 2021. Since 2016, U23 Vietnam has always participated in the AFC U23 Championship finals, achieving runner-up in 2018 and reaching the quarterfinals in the last two editions (2022, 2024).

With home advantage and an impressive record on this “ancestral land” over the years, coach Kim Sang-sik’s team is confident in aiming for a full 9 points in Group C. After beating U23 Bangladesh, they will face U23 Singapore (September 6) and U23 Yemen (September 9), both considered manageable opponents.

Viet Tri is becoming a “lucky ground” for Vietnamese football, witnessing historic milestones and pivotal victories. If U23 Vietnam continues their winning form at this “fortress,” they can secure a spot in the 2026 AFC U23 Championship finals and move closer to their dream of conquering the continent.
