Following the closure of the Premier League’s summer transfer window, Manchester United managed to sell Cameroonian goalkeeper André Onana. The main competition for the starting goalkeeper role now lies between Turkish international Altay Bayındır and newcomer Sena Lamens. Given that 23-year-old Lamens is a recent arrival still adjusting to the Premier League, and was sidelined for two straight games at Royal Antwerp before his £18.2 million transfer to United, the general consensus favors Bayındır retaining the starting position.

However, some have warned Amorin not to place too much trust in 27-year-old Bayındır, as his abilities are considered insufficient. Among the critics is legend Gary Neville, and former Chelsea player Craig Burley agrees, especially pointing out Bayındır’s weakness in dealing with set pieces, which opponents could exploit.
"Manchester United should not field Bayındır," Burley explained. "He might be good at saving shots, which is a goalkeeper’s basic duty, but he is useless when it comes to handling set pieces. The new goalkeeper needs to organize the defense, make saves, and command the penalty area, especially during set pieces. Nowadays, every team facing United tries to deliver balls into the box to challenge the keeper. You must be able to deal with that. Either face it bravely or shy away — we don’t yet know how Lamens will respond."
Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Manchester United believes this young Belgian goalkeeper can become the next star and a genuinely outstanding keeper. He will first compete with Bayındır for the starting role and prove himself through performance.
According to British media reports, some members of Manchester United’s management have proposed bringing back the 34-year-old legendary goalkeeper De Gea in the future. This transfer could earliest happen in January next year, though it’s unlikely; it might be feasible once the nearly 40-year-old Tom Heaton retires.

This summer, De Gea returned to Old Trafford representing Fiorentina for a friendly match, receiving a warm welcome from the “Theatre of Dreams” crowd. He also told some fans, "Our paths might cross again in the future."
At that time, De Gea also told Sky Sports UK that he hopes Manchester United can return to their peak. "I know United have faced some difficulties in recent years, but this is one of the best clubs in the world. It’s a strong club, and with the new signings and the coach’s first full season, I hope they achieve something this year. Let’s wait and see, and I wish United can win some trophies and earn the success they deserve."
Manchester United’s coach Amorin reportedly admires De Gea as well, believing he can assist both Lamens and even Bayındır in their development. During the aforementioned friendly, Amorin warmly embraced De Gea. The 40-year-old Portuguese coach doesn’t require his goalkeepers to excel in ball control; his keepers tend to play a more understated role in the team.
However, after joining Manchester United last week, Lamens revealed that De Gea is not among the two goalkeepers he idolizes. "I’ve watched a lot of football since I was young, and when I grew up to be a goalkeeper, my inspirations were Neuer and Courtois. They share similar traits with me, so I really admire them."

When discussing his own qualities, Lamens said, "I consider myself quite versatile and take pride in that. I like to initiate attacks from the back and enjoy combining with my teammates, keeping the ball at my feet. I aim to help the team control the space behind the defense and support our defenders. Of course, if you want to be a top-level goalkeeper, you must first be an excellent keeper. I believe I am an all-around goalkeeper. I still have room to improve, and I’m eager to start training and enhancing my skills to take the next step."
