Chelsea officially appoints three new business executives, showing a firm commitment to reorganize the management team to reinforce commercial strength and long-term growth for the club.
Chelsea FC has just announced a series of significant changes in its commercial leadership, described as “new signings” not from the pitch but from the management back office. The three new faces—Todd Kline, Phil Lynch, and James Murray—are expected to bring fresh energy to the club’s commercial and digital strategies.
In an official statement, Chelsea said: “Chelsea Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Todd Kline as Commercial Chairman and Phil Lynch as Chief Digital Officer, who will join Chelsea FC’s business leadership team. James Murray, former Strategy Director and Head of Business Operations, has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer, taking on broader responsibilities in overseeing the club’s day-to-day operations.”
Todd Kline—who has held key roles at Miami Dolphins, AEG, and most recently Tottenham Hotspur—will lead the entire commercial team. With extensive experience in generating revenue in sports and entertainment, Kline is expected to help Chelsea expand its partnership network and enhance financial strength.
Phil Lynch is a familiar figure in media and technology, having worked at Manchester United, served as Vice President at Yahoo!, and Senior Vice President at Sony. At Chelsea, he will continue to lead marketing, content, and product departments, playing a crucial role in driving digital transformation—a key area enabling the club to connect with global fans in the tech era.
James Murray, after more than two years with Chelsea and experience at AC Milan and Arsenal, has now been promoted to Chief Executive Officer. He will be responsible for managing the club’s daily operations, from business strategy to internal management. “James Murray’s promotion is well deserved. Since joining, he has played a vital role in the progress we have achieved across all business areas”, a Chelsea spokesperson shared.
Additionally, Chelsea confirmed the departure of Casper Stylsvig—the former Revenue Director who helped strengthen global partnerships over the past two years. “We thank him for his significant contributions and wish him success in his future endeavors”, the club expressed its gratitude.
These appointments not only reflect efforts to restructure but also show Chelsea’s determination to accelerate commercial development and solidify its global position. In modern football, where success on the field goes hand in hand with financial strength and governance, the appointments of Kline, Lynch, and Murray are seen as strategic moves to build a solid foundation for The Blues’ future.
