Declining form, Bellingham receives a warning from the head coach

Jobe Bellingham is currently under significant pressure from coach Niko Kovac.

Jobe Bellingham, the younger brother of superstar Jude Bellingham, is facing tough times at Borussia Dortmund as he frequently sits on the bench. Recently, head coach Niko Kovac issued a stern warning about the future of the 20-year-old player, emphasizing that the fierce competition within the squad is the main reason the young midfielder has yet to secure his position.

Coach Kovac openly warned: “Every player wants more playing time, but there are only 11 spots on the pitch. When you sign with Dortmund, you not only get a high salary but also must accept intense competition. If you don’t perform well, you won’t earn a place.”

The Croatian coach also pointed out that the pressure from the “Bellingham” name is negatively affecting Jobe: “Too much expectation just because of the name is unhelpful. It even adds extra pressure on him.”

While Jude has established his reputation, becoming a key player for Real Madrid and winning both La Liga and the Champions League in his first season in Spain, Jobe is still struggling to find his place at Dortmund.

Joining Dortmund from Sunderland last summer, Jobe Bellingham was expected to follow in his brother’s footsteps, who had great success at Signal Iduna Park before moving to Real Madrid. Previously, Jobe had an outstanding performance in the Championship, playing a crucial role in helping Sunderland beat Sheffield United in the playoff matches last May. His impressive form led Dortmund to fiercely compete with several Premier League and Bundesliga clubs to sign him.

Jobe’s start in Germany was not too bad. He was given the chance to start in three matches at the Club World Cup and appeared in the starting lineup for the first two Bundesliga games of the new season.

However, recent rounds have seen a decline in his role. Instead of continuing as a starter, Bellingham has only appeared as a substitute in matches against Heidenheim, Wolfsburg, and Juventus in the Champions League.

Concerns have grown as the player’s family has intervened too much. His father, Mark Bellingham, publicly criticized the club and sporting director Sebastian Kehl, which resulted in him being banned from the locker room. Dortmund worries that if the benching continues, the family’s dissatisfaction will intensify, adding unnecessary pressure on both the team and Jobe himself.

Additionally, some German football experts have expressed doubts about the transfer fee Dortmund paid. Former star Dietmar Hamann commented: “From what I hear in England, Dortmund spent too much on him. Jobe needs to prove his worth to justify this investment.”

This weekend, Jobe Bellingham has the chance to return to the starting lineup in the match against Mainz. This could be a crucial moment for him to prove himself and dispel the surrounding doubts.
