Manchester United secured new goalkeeper Sene Lammers for £18 million just before the summer window closed, but the 23-year-old Belgian has not played so far. At the same time, Altay Bayındır, who took over from André Onana as the first-choice keeper, has underperformed. Despite some remarkable saves, he also lets in some unnecessary goals, holding a 54% save rate—the worst among Premier League starting goalkeepers. Former United chief scout Mike Brown revealed that Ruben Amorim is unhappy with both keepers and wants a new first-choice goalkeeper signed in January.

Royal Antwerp's sporting director and Dutch legend Arie Haan disclosed that Lammers declined a better offer from Aston Villa to join his dream club, Manchester United. Previously, Lammers' brother admitted he advised him against choosing the troubled Red Devils, but his mind was already made up.
Haan told the Birmingham Mail: "When Manchester United wanted to sign Lammers, I told them, 'We are not Brighton or Brentford; we don't have weeks to waste. If you want him, act fast.' On transfer deadline day, we had reached an agreement with Villa, but Emiliano Martínez didn’t leave, and Lammers didn’t want to go to Villa. That’s when United made their offer, which was lower than Villa’s, but four hours later, we reached a deal."
Lammers’ preference for Manchester United deserves fans’ respect, but Amorim does not believe he is capable of starting for the team. Meanwhile, using Bayındır is merely a reluctant choice. "Amorim is still debating the goalkeeper position," Brown explained. "He’s unhappy with Bayındır’s performances, and I’ve been told he currently doesn’t trust Lammers to immediately become a Premier League starter. It’s absurd. I really don’t understand why he approved signing a goalkeeper he himself doubts is competent."
Brown stated, "I think if a team brings in a player who doesn’t improve the starting lineup, that’s more a problem with Amorim and the transfer team than the player. So now he’s demanding United sign a new goalkeeper in January. Honestly, that’s shocking—I can’t make sense of it. Yes, United definitely need a strong number one, but why pick Lammers in the summer?"

Manchester United manager Amorim is under immense pressure. In an interview with legend Owen Hargreaves, the 40-year-old Portuguese admitted he is unable to control the team and doesn’t know how they will perform in the next match. They might play very well, like against Chelsea, or perform terribly, as in losses to Grimsby and Brentford.
Amorim said, "You have to build a team with clear principles and processes for matches. With my current squad, no one can predict how they will perform—there’s a sense of uncertainty. If they connect well on the pitch, we won’t have problems. While the performance might not be outstanding, at least it won’t be disastrous. But if they fail to link up effectively, then it’s truly unpredictable."
Hargreaves visited Manchester United’s revamped Carrington training ground last week and watched the players train. He expressed surprise at the contrast between their training and match performances during his commentary.
"I expected United to win that game. Yesterday (Friday), I was at the training ground, and everyone was confident—I was sure they would win," Hargreaves said. "Yet United were completely dominated by their opponents. Brentford ranks 19th in possession this season among all teams, but in the first half, they had more ball control than United. How could that happen?!"

Some believe that even if Amorim is replaced, Manchester United may not resolve their problems or improve results, but without a change, improvement is impossible.
