It has been revealed that Solskjaer demanded a four-year rebuilding period to coach Manchester United! However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe refuses, and the "Child of the Devil" dream won't come true.

Former England manager Southgate is unlikely to become Manchester United’s next head coach because he insists on a lengthy four-year rebuild. Yet, Southgate is also aware that if he takes charge of the Red Devils, he won’t have such a long time to gradually reshape the squad.

The British newspaper The Sun reports that Southgate is open to discussing the possibility of managing Manchester United. However, sources reveal that although Southgate has been a lifelong United fan, he will not return to coaching without the conditions he desires, as doing so would ruin his reputation and future prospects.

If Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to invite Southgate to coach, he must commit to the long-term plan Southgate demands. But Southgate knows Manchester United expects immediate success since Sir Jim has set an ambitious goal to reclaim the Premier League title before 2028, celebrating the club’s 150th anniversary.

At 55 years old, Southgate is in no rush to return to coaching. After stepping down as England manager in 2024, he even hinted that he might not coach again. Currently, Southgate is engaged in other work outside football; next month, he will give two talks in London and Yorkshire promoting his new book "Dear England: Leadership Lessons," and he is involved in activities beyond football.

If Southgate ends up managing Manchester United and fails like Moyes, Van Gaal, Mourinho, Solskjaer, or Ten Hag, his current standing will vanish, as no one would invite him to share lessons from failure at Old Trafford. His Premier League coaching record is not strong—he led Middlesbrough to relegation in May 2009. Since then, Southgate spent eight years managing England, reaching the World Cup semi-finals and two European Championship finals, earning him a knighthood.

Southgate has close ties with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s confidant Sir Dave Brailsford, who was responsible for analyzing Manchester United’s structure after the takeover. Brailsford appointed former United sporting director Dan Ashworth, who also admires Southgate; the two worked together with England, and Ashworth once hoped Southgate would replace Ten Hag. However, United CEO Omar Berrada vetoed this choice and, along with Jason Wilcox, recommended Amrabat.

Ultimately, Ashworth, recommended by Brailsford, lasted only five months as sporting director before being dismissed over internal conflicts. Brailsford then left United’s management team; although he remains a director on the club’s football board, he no longer involves himself in Red Devils affairs and has returned to the cycling scene with Ineos.

According to The Sun, Manchester United’s reporters believe that although the club publicly continues to back Amrabat, they all sense the 40-year-old Portuguese coach is on a "point of no return." It is reported that Sir Jim flew to New York this week, possibly to meet with the Glazer family, another United owner. If Amrabat’s results do not improve, his dismissal would not be surprising.

Besides Southgate, another "Solskjaer" has been considered by Manchester United—Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who previously served as the team’s interim manager. It is said that before appointing Amrabat last year, Sir Jim considered letting the Norwegian Solskjaer temporarily lead the squad. Currently, Solskjaer is a free agent; he coached Besiktas for over half a year but was dismissed in August after failing to qualify for European competition.

If Manchester United needs another caretaker manager this time, Solskjaer remains a good option, as his previous interim tenure at Old Trafford yielded impressive results.
