Lionel Messi has stirred strong emotions among supporters with a notable personal statement.
Recently, Messi confirmed he will visit India, calling it an honor to return to the "land of football passion," where he played 14 years ago. The tour will cover four cities, starting in Kolkata on December 12, followed by Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and concluding in Delhi, where he is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The official news was shared by Messi on his personal Instagram account. He expressed: “It is a great honor for me. India is a special country, and I still cherish many wonderful memories from 14 years ago. The fans are amazing. India is a football-loving nation, and I look forward to meeting a new generation of supporters to share the passion for this sport.”
Previously, the schedule was announced by organizer Satadru Dutta on August 15, but the trip was only officially confirmed after Messi personally verified it last Thursday.
On December 12, upon arriving in Kolkata, Messi will attend the inauguration of his statue the next day, along with events such as the “GOAT Concert” and the “GOAT Cup.” The “GOAT Cup” will be a seven-a-side exhibition match where Messi will team up with prominent figures like Sourav Ganguly, Leander Paes, John Abraham, and Bhaichung Bhutia.
According to Ole, ticket prices are expected to start at 3,500 rupees (around 1,045,000 VND), and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will also attend to honor Messi. Afterwards, the Argentine superstar will fly to Ahmedabad for a private event with sponsors, then proceed to Mumbai on December 14, and finally to Delhi on December 15 for another “GOAT Concert” at Arun Jaitley Stadium. Mr. Dutta also mentioned that Messi is likely to have an official meeting with Prime Minister Modi.
This will mark Messi’s return to India after 14 years. His first visit was in 2011 when he played a friendly match with Argentina against Venezuela at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. That was also his debut match as the national team captain.
