Rams will start against Liverpool, Courtois assists Manchester United’s new signing! Manchester United trials a free goalkeeper

Manchester United's £18 million goalkeeper Sene Rams earned positive reviews in his debut, with British media reporting that the 23-year-old Belgian goalkeeper has been encouraged, supported, and assisted by fellow countryman Courtois. Currently, Ruben Amorim and supporters wish for him to become the new Courtois.

Regarding Amorim's stance on Rams, there are two contrasting opinions. One suggests he does not fully trust the rookie, while another claims the Manchester United coach treats Rams with almost a fatherly care and guidance, believing he will be a key player for many years. It is said that Manchester United expects him to become one of the world’s best goalkeepers within three years.

An insider from the club told The Sun that Amorim considers Rams an "upgraded version of Courtois," possessing excellent aerial control, strong impact, and superb ball-handling skills. Of course, anyone who believes this is undoubtedly naive. Rams, having played only one Premier League match, still has a long way to go to reach Courtois’s level and status.

However, Rams’ debut performance was indeed steady; he made three saves and caught two crosses over opponents' heads, earning a standing ovation from the Old Trafford crowd. After the match, many teammates came to embrace him, including his rival Alty Bayindir. Bayindir conceded 11 goals in six league games this season, ranking lowest in save percentage in the Premier League. In comparison, Rams showed more consistency and was vocal in organizing the defense, taking responsibility proactively.

English media disclosed that Rams and Courtois share a close relationship and frequently communicate. The 33-year-old Courtois has advised his 10-years-younger teammate on how to quickly adapt to the Premier League and warned him about the immense pressure of playing for Manchester United. The two have trained together with the Belgian national team, although Rams has yet to make an appearance for the senior squad.

During this international break, Rams returned to the Belgian team, while Courtois liked Manchester United’s official social media post about Rams’ debut. However, after the break, Rams will face a real test at Anfield; in the match between Manchester United and Liverpool, he must maintain his composure, or all the praise will turn into ridicule.

Manchester United legend goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel commented: "This goalkeeper performed very well, showing reliability and steadiness. He was mostly untroubled during the game but excelled when called into action. His performance has some similarities to Edwin (van der Sar). However, it is still too early to judge his overall ability."

Schmeichel cautioned: "Over the years, we have seen many talented players join Manchester United but fail to handle the pressure. So, I won’t add any extra burden on him. He did well, and now it’s the international break, but he still needs to maintain this level in the next game."

It is reported that Manchester United will continue to recruit new goalkeepers next year. Meanwhile, a young free goalkeeper is currently trialing with the team. Adrian Janusz, 19, is a Polish player who previously played for Newcastle United and Brentford. He has now joined Manchester United’s U21 squad and made a substitute appearance in the match against Everton last Friday night.

Adrian hopes to secure a contract with Manchester United, but he has little connection with Amorim’s first team. The first team seeks a more experienced and stable goalkeeper to compete with Rams.
