Manchester United may target the Portuguese club captain in the winter transfer window! Amolin tests Sir Jim's trust, aiming for a £60 million signing of his trusted player.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe announced this week that he would grant Rúben Amorim three years to prove he can revive the team and showcase his talent. However, talk is cheap, and the 40-year-old Portuguese manager now expects the owner to back him up by bringing in one of his close associates—the Sporting CP captain, Morten Jørmand.

Manchester United did not manage to sign a new midfielder during the summer transfer window and now intend to make moves in January. The club’s only target this summer was Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, but his price tag exceeded £100 million, which Sir Jim could not afford. Now, according to the Spanish outlet Fichajes, Amorim hopes to bring in the 26-year-old Danish international Jørmand.

Jørmand is one of Amorim’s trusted players, having joined Sporting CP from Lecce in 2023 and being appointed captain last year. Amorim seems particularly fond of Danish players from Lecce; the first signing he made after taking charge at Manchester United was also a Danish international from Lecce—left-back Patrick Dyugu.

Jørmand possesses comprehensive defensive midfield skills, excelling in ball control and positioning. Amorim believes he has a “monster-like” mentality and ability. If Amorim is to coach Manchester United long-term, how could he not have one or two players he trusts deeply? Spanish media report that United is considering fulfilling Amorim’s wish.

According to Fichajes, Manchester United regards Jørmand as a priority target for the winter window, with an expected fee around €60 million. His previous working relationship with Amorim is seen as a key factor to initiate negotiations.

Sporting CP is reluctant to let go of their captain, whose contract includes an €80 million release clause. However, if a convincing offer arrives, he may still be allowed to leave. Jørmand is also attracting interest from Juventus and Tottenham.

Another Spanish outlet, Mundo Deportivo, reports that Manchester United is also interested in Real Madrid’s French star Eduardo Camavinga. United had close contact with Camavinga when he was still playing for Rennes in Ligue 1. However, new circumstances might prompt the French midfielder to leave the Bernabéu.

Camavinga suffered multiple injuries last season and was injured again earlier this season. He has just recovered with limited playing time, and new coach Xavi Alonso appears to prefer Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde, and Aurélien Tchouaméni. Disappointed with his role, Camavinga might seek a transfer.

However, this is likely just a rumor stirred by Barcelona’s media to unsettle Real Madrid. The two clubs are separated by only two points in La Liga this season, with Barcelona trailing. Therefore, Real Madrid’s Valverde and Camavinga have recently been “arranged” to move to the Red Devils. In reality, it is unlikely that United’s new midfielder will come from Real Madrid.

Many Manchester United fans believe that Baleba, Crystal Palace’s Adam Walton, and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson are the players the club should prioritize signing, but all three are difficult to acquire mid-season.

Amorim also received bad news during the international break. Young center-back Aiden Haven was called up for England’s U20 squad in Switzerland but got injured within the first minute of his starting appearance. Although he continued until halftime after treatment, he was substituted at the break. Head coach Ben Fletcher said, “He did have an issue; I don’t think it’s too serious, but we’ll have to monitor how it develops.”
