The U23 Vietnam squad faced U23 Qatar again as part of their training stay in the UAE, gearing up for the 33rd SEA Games and the 2026 AFC U23 Championship.
In their final match in the UAE against U23 Qatar, the U23 Vietnam coaching staff gave playing time to younger players who had limited minutes in the previous game. The lineup, featuring many new faces such as Nguyễn Tân, Quang Kiệt, Tuấn Phong, Nam Hải, Minh Phúc, Thành Chung, and Văn Thuận, showed great effort and delivered an exciting match against one of Asia’s top teams.
Despite falling behind by two goals early on, U23 Vietnam did not lose their spirit. Coach Đinh Hồng Vinh’s players quickly reorganized, reducing the deficit with a goal from Văn Thuận, before Quốc Việt equalized to 2-2 in the second half. However, a brief lapse in concentration near the end led to conceding a third goal, ending the match 2-3 in favor of U23 Qatar.
The result was not the primary focus, as the main goal was to test personnel and assess the players’ adaptability to various tactical formations. Through these two friendlies, the coaching staff gained valuable data to select the best candidates for upcoming major tournaments.
According to the plan, U23 Vietnam will return home on October 14, concluding a training camp regarded as a success in terms of professionalism. The entire team will continue their rigorous training, finalize the squad, and prepare for two major objectives: The 33rd SEA Games in Thailand in December 2025 and The 2026 AFC U23 Championship.
Interim coach Đinh Hồng Vinh can be pleased with the team’s fighting spirit, significant improvement in fitness, and tactical flexibility. Giving all players game time allowed the coaching staff a comprehensive view and fostered healthy competition within the squad.
The training camp in the UAE not only enhanced U23 Vietnam’s technical skills but also strengthened their international competitive mentality, a crucial factor for pursuing upcoming goals. With their current foundation and strong determination, U23 Vietnam is showing thorough preparation and readiness to aim for impressive results at both the 33rd SEA Games and the 2026 AFC U23 Championship.
