After failing to score in two consecutive tournaments, striker Nguyễn Quốc Việt recently found the net for the Vietnam U23 national team.
On the night of October 13th, Vietnam U23 played their final friendly match during their training camp in the UAE against U23 Qatar. After trailing 2-1 at halftime, striker Nguyễn Quốc Việt equalized for the red-shirted team at the 68th minute with a beautiful long-range shot to make it 2-2.
Notably, this was the first goal from the player nicknamed the "King of Youth Competitions" after more than three months without scoring. The last time the Ninh Bình FC striker scored for Vietnam U23 was in a friendly against U23 Chinese Taipei in early July. During the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship and the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers, Quốc Việt regularly appeared (both as a starter and substitute) but was unable to score.
This goal helped the 2004-born striker break his scoring drought after a difficult period, boosting his confidence ahead of important upcoming tournaments such as SEA Games 33 and the 2026 U23 Asian Championship finals. Quốc Việt also shared a video of his goal on his personal social media.
Returning to the match, Vietnam U23 eventually suffered a 2-3 loss after a goal by a Qatari player in the 78th minute. At the 88th minute, Quốc Việt had another chance to equalize for Vietnam U23, but his shot narrowly missed the post.
Today (October 14), the Vietnam U23 team will return home, concluding a very effective and beneficial training camp. During the FIFA Days in November, the team will regroup to officially prepare for SEA Games 33.
