Coach Kim Sang Sik unexpectedly selected young goalkeeper Trần Trung Kiên to start instead of Đặng Văn Lâm when Vietnam faced Nepal in the second leg of the final round Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers on the evening of October 14.
Actually, Văn Lâm’s performance in the first leg a few days ago still had some limitations, especially in footwork situations. Therefore, Trung Kiên was given the chance in the rematch against Nepal.
The central defensive trio also changed as U23 player Nguyễn Hiểu Minh started alongside Đỗ Duy Mạnh and Phạm Xuân Mạnh. Coach Kim did not use Nhật Minh as the left center-back to replace the injured Bùi Tiến Dũng but chose Phạm Xuân Mạnh instead. Hiểu Minh played as the stopper, allowing Duy Mạnh to play his natural role as the right center-back.
Vietnam National Team Starting Lineup vs Nepal
The two wingers are Cao Pendant Quang Vinh on the left wing and Trương Tiến Anh on the opposite side. Both have good stamina, capable of pushing forward to support attacks or dropping back to defend.
In midfield, Nguyễn Hoàng Đức will partner with Lê Phạm Thành Long. This pair can control the midfield, enhance the quality of passes, and distribute the ball to teammates.
Up front, Nguyễn Tiến Linh continues as the main striker leading the goal-scoring duties. He will be supported by Nguyễn Thanh Nhàn and Nguyễn Văn Vĩ.
Thus, compared to the first leg where Vietnam defeated Nepal 3-1 at Gò Đậu Stadium, Coach Kim Sang Sik made four changes to Vietnam’s starting lineup.
