Robert Lewandowski has suffered a thigh injury and is expected to be absent for the El Clásico clash with Real Madrid, causing significant difficulties for Barcelona at a pivotal moment in the campaign.
According to ESPN, Barcelona continues to face a nightmare with injuries as Robert Lewandowski has a thigh problem and will be sidelined for about five weeks. This means the Polish striker will almost certainly miss the El Clásico against Real Madrid on October 26, pushing the Catalan club into a personnel crisis amid a congested fixture schedule.
The 37-year-old forward missed the start of the season due to a muscle injury and only returned to play in mid-September during the 2-1 Champions League win over Newcastle. Although he has appeared in just nine matches and scored four goals, the Polish star has been unlucky again with another thigh injury. Lewandowski’s absence leaves coach Flick with only two striking options, Ferran Torres and Marcus Rashford, while other attacking choices are also affected by fitness issues.
Not only Lewandowski, but Barcelona had also lost Dani Olmo and Gavi—two key midfielders due to injuries. Both will be unavailable for the trip to Madrid on October 26. However, fans received some good news as Lamine Yamal and Fermín López have returned to training, and Raphinha is expected to recover in time for the match against Real.
Additionally, goalkeepers Marc-André ter Stegen and Joan García have yet to return. ESPN reports that Olmo might come back in early November, similar to García, but Gavi and Ter Stegen still require long-term treatment. Meanwhile, Raphinha is working hard every day to regain his best form as soon as possible.
Besides Real Madrid, Barcelona will face Girona, Olympiacos, Elche, Club Brugge, and Celta Vigo before the international break. Lewandowski’s chances of returning for these matches are very slim, making the forward options even more complicated. Will coach Flick have enough solutions to help Barcelona navigate through this turbulent period?
