Southeast Asian fans have mixed reactions to Vietnam's 1-0 victory over Nepal

Southeast Asian supporters were surprised that the Vietnam national team only secured a narrow 1-0 win against Nepal in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.

The second leg match between Vietnam and Nepal in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers ended with a 1-0 score in favor of the home team. In the first half, the white-shirted team struggled due to the waterlogged pitch, which directly affected the accuracy of their plays. Unexpectedly, in the 5th minute, after a corner kick, Hiểu Minh headed the ball causing Suman Shrestha to score an own goal, giving Vietnam the lead.

However, in the second half, Duy Mạnh and his teammates could no longer maintain pressure on their opponents while Nepal started to push forward aggressively. They even created some dangerous chances but failed to score.

After the match, many Southeast Asian fans expressed surprise that the hosts at Thống Nhất Stadium only managed a slim margin against a not-so-strong opponent. On the Asean Football page, many commented:

The 1-0 result gave Vietnam an additional 3 points and kept them in second place in Group F. However, creating more than 20 shots but only scoring once (an own goal by the opponent) remains a big question for coach Kim Sang Sik’s team. Meanwhile, Nepal has every right to be proud of their brave performance against the hosts.
