The 1-0 victory over Nepal allowed Vietnam’s national team to move up 3 spots in the FIFA standings.
On the evening of October 14th, Vietnam defeated Nepal 1-0 at Thong Nhat Stadium in the second leg of Group F, Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers.
With this result, the Red Shirts earned 3 more points, maintaining their second place in the group with 9 points. Additionally, according to Footy Ranking statistics, the victory added 6.72 points to the "Golden Star Warriors," bringing their total to 1,183.6 points and moving them up 3 places from 113th to 110th in the FIFA rankings.
Meanwhile, regional rival Malaysia also rose one spot to 118th following their 5-1 comeback win against Laos. Thailand advanced to 96th worldwide after a 6-1 victory over Chinese Taipei. Conversely, Indonesia dropped to 122nd after losses to Saudi Arabia and Iraq in the fourth qualifying round.
In this match, Vietnam controlled the first half more effectively. The home team scored early in the 5th minute due to an own goal by the opposing player. However, afterward, their players missed several dangerous chances with shots hitting the crossbar and posts.
In the second half, Nepal pushed forward to seek an equalizer and at times created significant threats to goalkeeper Trung Kien’s goal. Nevertheless, Nepal’s final attempts were all off target.
