Lionel Messi has officially announced a brand-new competition called the Messi Cup, bringing together 8 of the world’s leading football clubs.
The past month has been truly busy for Lionel Messi, as he completed a new promotional campaign with Adidas, personally selecting 10 promising young football talents worldwide.
The list includes: Rio Ngumoha, Nico Paz, Kendry Páez, Andrey Santos, Rodrigo Mora, Brajan Gruda, Kader Meïte, Mika Godts, Lily Yohannes, and Clara Serrajordi. Clearly, the champion of the 2022 World Cup has a keen eye for spotting the "raw gems" of the football world.
And recently, Messi once again attracted attention by officially unveiling the first international tournament named the “Messi Cup”, a global youth competition scheduled to take place in December..
On his personal Instagram, Messi shared: “I’m very excited to announce that this December, Miami will host a special youth football tournament featuring some of the world’s top clubs.
The future of football will be fully showcased, and this is more than just matches — we have many exciting activities planned. This event is for the next generation. I hope everyone will love it! #MessiCup.”
The Messi Cup is organized by 525 Rosario (a production company founded by Messi himself) and is described as a groundbreaking tournament for youth football worldwide.
A total of 8 U16 teams will participate, including: Barcelona, River Plate, Inter Milan, Newell’s Old Boys, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City, and another guest team. The tournament is divided into two groups, each with 4 teams playing round-robin matches over the first 3 days. The top teams will advance to playoffs to compete for the final rankings.
The final day will feature two key matches: the third-place playoff and the final, held at Inter Miami’s Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
Mr. Tim Pastore, CEO of 525 Rosario, stated: “This is an opportunity to celebrate talent, culture, and community, creating legacies and strong bonds beyond the pitch. The Messi Cup is where today’s football meets tomorrow’s stars.”
