The fourth round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers has confirmed the first team to secure a spot in Asia's most prestigious tournament.
After the conclusion of the fourth round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, the groups have begun to reveal the potential teams advancing to the continent’s top competition.
Moreover, one team has delivered an outstanding performance to officially qualify two matches early. Specifically, the Syrian national team has secured the top position in Group E with a perfect 12 points, guaranteeing their participation in the 2027 Asian Cup regardless of the outcomes in the remaining two matches.
The West Asian representative started their qualifying campaign with a 2-0 victory over Pakistan, followed by a 1-0 win against Afghanistan in the second round, then a commanding win against Myanmar in the third round, and repeated this success against the same opponent in the fourth round.
This marks the third consecutive time Syria will participate in the tournament and the first time they have achieved this feat in the 21st century. Syria has appeared seven times in previous Asian Cups and will make their eighth appearance in 2027. Their best result was reaching the Round of 16 at the 2023 Asian Cup held in Qatar.
In the final two matches, coach Jose Lana’s squad will first play away against Pakistan before concluding the qualifiers with a home game against Afghanistan.
Notably, Syria is not the only team to have maintained a perfect winning streak.
In Group F, the Malaysian national team continues to demonstrate dominant form despite missing seven key naturalized players due to FIFA sanctions. The "Malayan Tigers" currently top Group F with a flawless 12 points, including a 4-0 win over Vietnam last June. However, with Vietnam closely chasing them, coach Peter Cklamovski’s team has yet to secure qualification, as the gap is only three points with two matches remaining.
