The Vietnam National Team received 800 million VND as a reward after their 1-0 win against Nepal in the Asian Cup qualifying round.
Although their performance was not entirely convincing, the Vietnam National Team still secured a full 3 points with a 1-0 win over Nepal. Coach Kim Sang Sik’s squad achieved their goal of winning both matches during the October FIFA Days against Nepal in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
While the victory was not dominant, the players’ efforts were recognized. After the match between Vietnam and Nepal ended, Mr. Tran Anh Tu - Vice President of the VFF, came down to encourage the coaching staff and players. The Vietnam Football Federation also gave an immediate reward of 800 million VND to boost the team’s morale.
The strong support for the Vietnam team in Ho Chi Minh City was evident through the fans' enthusiasm. All tickets issued by the VFF for this match were sold out well in advance. Online tickets were sold out by October 5th, and physical tickets were gone within two hours of sales opening. Unfortunately, Stand B at Thong Nhat Stadium remained closed for renovation preparations, causing many fans to miss the chance to cheer in person.
Heavy rain delayed the match start by 30 minutes. However, by the 5th minute, the “Golden Star Warriors” had already made a difference. From a corner kick on the left by Tien Anh, young center-back Hieu Minh headed the ball, which deflected off Nepal defender Suman Shrestha and went into the net, giving Vietnam the opening goal.
Coach Kim Sang Sik’s players continued to control the game. In the 20th minute, Tien Linh headed to set up Van Vi for a close-range shot, but it was unsuccessful. Just before the first half ended, Van Vi missed another chance as his header was cleared off the line by a Nepal defender.
In the second half, the home team faced more challenges as Nepal pushed forward aggressively. Nevertheless, Vietnam’s defense stayed focused and preserved their narrow lead until the final whistle.
The 1-0 victory over Nepal helped Coach Kim Sang Sik’s team maintain their momentum and strengthen their second-place position on the leaderboard, preparing for the upcoming stages of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
