Dembele uses the Ballon d'Or to demand a huge salary, PSG refuses due to Messi and Neymar

Following his 2025 Ballon d'Or victory, Ousmane Dembele wants to revisit his contract terms with PSG, yet the Parisian club is not prepared to exceed the existing salary cap.

According to L’Équipe, Ousmane Dembele is preparing for a delicate negotiation with Paris Saint-Germain after securing the 2025 Ballon d'Or. Although the French star’s contract runs until summer 2028, his recent individual achievement has prompted him and his agent to seek improved compensation at PSG.

Unlike previous contracts at Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona, Dembele’s current deal with PSG does not include bonuses for winning the Ballon d'Or. Therefore, after being named the world’s best player, the 28-year-old forward believes it is time to be recognized according to his new status.

Sources from L’Équipe reveal that Dembele’s camp is requesting a significant pay increase reflecting his performance and influence at PSG. However, the Parc des Princes club, while appreciating Dembele’s contributions, has no intention of breaking the wage structure, which has been tightened under the new financial and sporting strategy led by advisor Luís Campos.

PSG is reportedly willing to raise Dembele’s salary but will not offer a “super contract” like those given to Neymar or Lionel Messi. When Neymar joined PSG, his deal became one of the most expensive in football history, and Messi’s 2021 arrival from Barcelona also came with a record-breaking salary. These deals placed immense financial pressure on PSG, and the club now wants to avoid repeating that situation, even though winning the Champions League remains a key objective.

Dembele is currently regarded as one of PSG’s most crucial players, both in their quest to defend the European crown and compete for the Ligue 1 title. However, renegotiating his contract could create underlying tensions between the parties, especially as PSG remains firm on its new financial principles.
