To get ready for the 33rd SEA Games and the 2026 U23 Asian Championship finals, U23 Vietnam will travel to China for training and friendly matches in November. The team will compete in a four-nation friendly tournament organized by the Chinese Football Association, including hosts China, U23 Uzbekistan, U23 South Korea, and U23 Vietnam.
These are all top-tier youth football teams in Asia. U23 Uzbekistan is the reigning U23 Asian champion with an impressive youth development record over recent years. U23 South Korea also has many promising young talents, while U23 China boasts strong physicality and endurance.
Previously, in August at the Chinese Football Association (CFA) headquarters, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and CFA officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding for football development cooperation from 2025 to 2028. VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan and CFA President Song Kai signed on behalf of their federations, marking an important step forward in fostering comprehensive collaboration between the two football associations.
To implement this cooperation, CFA will organize several specific events and activities in the near future. As part of the preparation plan for the 33rd SEA Games and the 2026 U23 Asian Championship finals, the U23 Vietnam team is expected to join the international U23 tournament hosted by CFA in November.
During the FIFA international window in October, U23 Vietnam traveled to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for training and international friendly matches. This was part of a thorough preparation plan aimed at two key goals: the 33rd SEA Games in December and the 2026 U23 Asian Championship finals.
U23 Vietnam played two friendly matches against Qatar during their training stint in the UAE. Despite missing 8 key players who are currently with the senior Vietnam national team, U23 Vietnam performed quite well, narrowly losing both matches with scores of 0-1 and 2-3.
