Southeast Asian football fans erupt in debate over Vietnam's new 60,000-seat stadium

The announcement that Vietnam has begun construction of the PVF stadium, seating 60,000 in Hung Yen, has ignited active conversations within Southeast Asia’s football circles, with many applauding the country’s foresight and commitment to advancing sports facilities.

On October 19, 2025, in Nghia Tru commune (Hung Yen), Vietnam officially commenced the PVF stadium project a large-scale facility within the PVF Youth Football Training Center campus. This project is led by the Ministry of Public Security as the investor, with Vinhomes (part of Vingroup) as the general contractor. It covers over 55,000 m² and includes four main stands A, B, C, D, along with full functional zones: an operations center, technical-security area, press zone, VIP section, player rooms, dining area, outdoor plaza, and a modern 18-hectare parking lot.

Immediately after the construction news was released, Southeast Asian football forums quickly heated up with thousands of comments.

Most regional fans expressed amazement at the grand scale of the project. One Indonesian supporter commented: “Vietnam is ahead of many Southeast Asian countries in investing in sports infrastructure; this stadium looks just like a European standard one.” A Malaysian fan also showed clear admiration: “I didn’t expect Vietnam to have such far-sighted vision; once completed, this stadium will surely be a pride for the entire region.”

However, alongside praise, some voices remain cautious. A Thai fan wrote: “The design is truly excellent, but the key is whether they can finish it on schedule.” Meanwhile, another expressed a mix of envy and humor: “At this rate, Vietnam will surpass us; maybe we should learn from how they manage football.”

A frequently mentioned topic is the giant retractable roof that can open or close within 12 to 20 minutes, making Vietnam the third ASEAN country to have this technology after Singapore and Indonesia. Many users from the Philippines also expressed confidence that the PVF stadium will give Vietnam more opportunities to host major tournaments in the future.
