Vietnam’s beloved national goalkeeper is officially out for the entire season.

The nation’s goalkeeper Bùi Tiến Dũng has just delivered very sad news to Vietnamese football fans after being diagnosed with an anterior cruciate ligament tear, confirming he will miss the entire 2025/26 season.

The joy of his comeback after a long recovery quickly turned into great sorrow. In the Round 7 match of the 2025/26 V-League between Thể Công Viettel and SHB Đà Nẵng on the evening of October 20th, the goalkeeper born in 1997 lasted just over 15 minutes before having to leave the game due to a serious injury.

Entrusted by coach Lê Đức Tuấn with the starting position, Tiến Dũng was expected to help Đà Nẵng hold firm against the military team in great form. Unfortunately, misfortune struck again. During a quick counterattack from Thể Công Viettel, Bùi Tiến Dũng landed awkwardly while rushing out to block, fell to the ground in pain, and was unable to continue. He was carried off the field amid the concern of teammates and staff.

On the morning of October 21st, SHB Đà Nẵng club sent the goalkeeper for an MRI scan to determine the extent of the injury. The result was heartbreaking: Bùi Tiến Dũng suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his knee, one of the most severe injuries for a professional player. He will require surgery and is expected to be sidelined for at least 6 to 9 months, which almost certainly means missing the rest of the 2025/26 V-League season.

This is a huge shock for Bùi Tiến Dũng personally, who was once regarded as the “hero of Thường Châu” for Vietnam’s U23 team in 2018. After years of ups and downs, he has been striving to regain form and the trust of fans while wearing SHB Đà Nẵng’s colors. But this serious injury once again interrupts his comeback journey.

The SHB Đà Nẵng management stated they will provide maximum support for Dũng during his treatment and recovery. Despite many challenges ahead, fans still hope the Thanh Hóa native goalkeeper will soon overcome adversity and return to the pitch where he once shone and brought countless emotions to Vietnamese football.
