Gyokeres ends scoring drought, Arsenal makes Champions League history

Arsenal made Champions League history by beating Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid 4-0.

Arsenal shocked all of Europe with a 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid at the Emirates on the morning of October 22. Yet, this was more than just an impressive victory against a famously tough team — it was a historic milestone never before seen in Champions League history.

Arsenal’s new record in the Champions League

This marks Arsenal’s seventh straight win over Spanish clubs in the Champions League — a record no other team has achieved. Before defeating Atletico, Arsenal had beaten Athletic Bilbao in last month’s opening match and had overcome Real Madrid (15-time champions) in both legs of last season’s quarter-finals. They also won against Girona in last year’s group stage and defeated Sevilla in both legs of the 2023/24 season, the last season with group stages.
