Đông Á Thanh Hóa recorded their first win in the LPBank V-League 2025/26, securing it at Vinh Stadium against SLNA. After the match, coach Choi Won-kwon revealed a surprising fact to many.
He shared: "As you all know, Đông Á Thanh Hóa is in a very difficult situation. Up until now, it has been 4-5 months without salary payments. Personally, I have been working here for 3 months without receiving any salary.
However, today’s victory could help change the situation and improve our ranking. I hope it will strengthen the team’s unity and bring about positive backstage changes."

The former assistant to coach Kim Sang-sik added: "Some might think Đông Á Thanh Hóa’s win was somewhat lucky. In previous matches, we played well but lacked luck to secure wins. However, I do not see it that way because we fully executed what we prepared. The most important thing is that the team earned all 3 points. Our goal is to take it one match at a time, and in the next game, we will still aim for victory."
According to the schedule for round 9 of the LPBank V-League 2025/26 on November 2nd, Đông Á Thanh Hóa will return to their home ground to face Thể Công Viettel.
On the other side, SLNA coach Văn Sỹ Sơn stated: "Regarding fitness, I have just taken charge, so it’s impossible to raise the players’ stamina in just a day or two. Without reaching peak physical condition, players will struggle to maintain their performance throughout the game. Many believe they have weak stamina, but in my opinion, what is essential is making more effort and working harder."
The SLNA head coach expressed regret: "If we had managed to keep 1 point to hold back the opponent, the road ahead for the lower-ranked teams would be extremely difficult, especially when opponents know how to use home advantage. Our players are still young; I hope they will recognize this and put in more effort."
Regarding the foreign squad, he assessed: "We only have Olaha and one defender who plays consistently. The foreign midfielders and forwards still require more time to blend with this young team and must strive harder."
