Amorim has personally chosen Manchester United's first signing under his management to be the new Mendes, aiming for him to emulate the Parisian defender! However, fans remain dissatisfied with him.

If you ask who the most disappointing player currently at Manchester United is, left-back Patrick Doku is definitely among them. Yet head coach Rúben Amorim holds high hopes for the 21-year-old Danish international, as he is the first new recruit signed under his tenure. The Red Devils' manager hopes to develop him into a "Mendes 2.0."

Nuno Mendes of Paris Saint-Germain was a player developed by Amorim at Sporting Lisbon, although he only reached his current level after transferring to PSG. Today, Mendes is considered the world’s top left-back, and Amorim has instructed Doku to study Mendes’ game footage to learn and improve his own skills.

An insider revealed that the Manchester United coaching staff refer to Doku as the "Mendes 2.0." The source said, "Doku’s performances this season have been inconsistent, but Amorim has consistently supported him. He believes Doku’s athleticism, technical traits, and attitude on the pitch are enough for him to become United’s starting left-back for the next decade."

At present, Doku clearly does not measure up to Mendes, and Amorim hasn’t even started him regularly, preferring to deploy right-back Diogo Dalot as a left wing-back. However, a United insider said, "Our goal is to make Doku more decisive in attack, with more assists and goals, while contributing significantly in secondary attacks, much like Amad Diallo does on the right side."

The insider added, "Amorim is fully committed to helping Doku reach that level as soon as possible. He genuinely believes Doku is the next Mendes. The coaching staff even hopes he can cover the defensive zones of a left center-back, similar to what Mendes sometimes does at PSG."

Amorim’s support for Doku is unmistakable; this week he actively participated in a birthday celebration for the Danish full-back. "Rúben (Amorim) is very personable and kind," said an observer with years of experience in the Premier League, "He truly puts in a lot of effort."

However, since joining Manchester United from Lecce for €30 million, Doku’s performances have failed to satisfy fans. His competitiveness and fighting spirit are unquestioned, but his technique and creativity leave much to be desired. Doku just turned 21 at the end of last month, but Mendes is only two years older than him!

It makes sense for Doku to learn from Mendes, but there’s no need to constantly compare the two, as that doesn’t benefit the player much. He needs to focus on being himself. Recently, goalkeeper Senna Ramses, hailed as the "new Schmeichel," stated that he is not Peter Schmeichel in disguise—he is simply Ramses.

Ramses explained, "Over the years, Manchester United fans have witnessed many goalkeepers and players, and none of them were boring. This has influenced the game itself, and for the fans, I represent a positive change. Unlike others, I am somewhat ordinary. I also realize that from an outsider’s perspective, I might seem quite dull. But that’s exactly the type I want to be: a steadfast goalkeeper unaffected by emotional swings. I hope to serve here for 10 years and play a key role. That way, I can leave my own legacy, like Schmeichel and Van der Sar."

Interestingly, Schmeichel himself once questioned the decision to sign Ramses, showing more admiration for Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez.

Ramses said he understands this: "In my first few games, Schmeichel came over to chat with me on the sidelines. He was very friendly, trying to help me relax and told me to just do what I’m supposed to and stay confident. His concerns were understandable because when I signed, he didn’t know me well. I think like many others, he probably hadn’t watched much of Antwerp’s matches."

Ramses also hopes to succeed Real Madrid star Thibaut Courtois in the other "Red Devil" role — the Belgian national team goalkeeper. Of course, he must also compete with Mats Sels, who plays for Nottingham Forest, United’s Premier League opponent this week. "Right now, both of them are clearly better than me," Ramses said, "But in the coming years, I will work hard to help the Red Devils reclaim the championship. That’s my goal, and why I chose to transfer to Manchester United."
