Things get tougher as more bad news continues to hit Arsenal

Arsenal faces a series of setbacks with Viktor Gyokeres and Kepa Arrizabalaga likely to miss upcoming European Champions League matches.

Ahead of their trip to the Czech Republic to face Slavia Prague in the Champions League group stage, Arsenal received disappointing news as Viktor Gyokeres and Kepa Arrizabalaga were absent from the latest training session.

Gyokeres, who scored the opening goal in the 2-0 win over Burnley last weekend, was substituted shortly after halftime due to a muscle issue. The Swedish striker reported mild pain and was rested by coach Mikel Arteta to prevent aggravating the injury. Midfielder Mikel Merino came on as his replacement, impressing with his ball control and game management.

Not only Gyokeres, but goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was also absent from Monday’s training. Arteta has not disclosed the exact reason but is expected to provide an update on the Spanish goalkeeper’s condition at the pre-match press conference.

Another case is Martin Zubimendi, who suffered a minor muscle injury during the victory over Burnley. The Spanish midfielder left the field in the 77th minute after receiving on-field medical treatment.

However, Zubimendi trained with his teammates earlier this week, indicating he could play in the Premier League match against Sunderland this weekend. Still, the 26-year-old will miss the game against Prague due to suspension after accumulating three yellow cards in the Champions League.

Arsenal is also dealing with a lengthy injury list. Kai Havertz has not returned since August following knee surgery. The German midfielder has only appeared once this season, in the match against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Noni Madueke, the new signing costing over £50 million from Chelsea, has been sidelined since September with a knee injury. Although surgery was not required, the English winger is still recovering and hopes to be ready for the upcoming England national team call-up.

Captain Martin Odegaard continues to face bad luck after a knee injury relapse during the 2-0 win over West Ham in early October. The Norwegian star has missed many games and remains under a specialized treatment regimen.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus are still unavailable. Martinelli is dealing with a thigh muscle issue, while Jesus is expected to be out until the end of the year due to a knee injury.
