Ruben Amorim admits Benjamin Sesko is 'struggling' at Manchester United

Coach Ruben Amorim acknowledges that the £74 million striker Benjamin Sesko is having difficulties at Manchester United, following Gary Neville's comment that the Slovenian forward is “far below” initial expectations.

After more than two months at Manchester United, Benjamin Sesko has yet to live up to the huge expectations placed on him. Coach Ruben Amorim frankly admits the Slovenian striker is struggling to adapt and “does not feel comfortable” at Old Trafford.

Nevertheless, Coach Ruben Amorim remains patient. He believes Sesko’s difficulties are normal for a young player entering one of the toughest environments in the world. “I am very calm, but Ben is not.” I understand football is like that; you face challenges, especially when hailed as a big talent. At Man Utd, if you don’t shine every week, you will be criticized by legends, experts, and the media,” Amorim shared.

The Portuguese coach also revealed Sesko is a perfectionist who wants to control everything, which makes him prone to stress during the initial phase. “He has more potential than I expected. We just need to help him understand how to play within the system. I believe Sesko will be a long-term striker for Man Utd, even though he is still struggling now.”

Joining Man Utd from RB Leipzig in a £73.62 million deal last August, Sesko was expected to be the perfect fit for Amorim’s attack. However, after 11 matches across all competitions, the 23-year-old striker has only scored two goals, a modest tally compared to his transfer fee and fans’ expectations.

Previously, former star Gary Neville remarked that Sesko is “far behind” other new signings like Matheus Cunha or Bryan Mbeumo, players with Premier League experience.

This comment is seen as a warning to the young player, who was brought in to replace Rasmus Hojlund, a peer who also had a difficult start, scoring just three goals in his first 11 matches for United last season.

Inside the club, Sesko is highly regarded for his professional attitude. He often arrives at the Carrington training center at 8 AM, an hour earlier than scheduled, and leaves only after 4 PM. Insider sources say Sesko is working hard to improve his coordination to better fit Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation, which requires the striker to be more involved in linking play.

Besides defending his player, Amorim also confirmed his desire to keep Casemiro and Harry Maguire at the club, emphasizing that “the most important thing right now is to focus on this season before thinking about the future.”
