Cristiano Ronaldo is predicted to contemplate joining the MLS as Lionel Messi excels at Inter Miami, amid growing interest in the futures of these two icons.
Cristiano Ronaldo is entering a critical phase of his career, with his contract at Al Nassr running until 2027 and the goal of reaching 1,000 career goals still ahead. With the MLS gaining more appeal, the legend who has often dazzled in the Champions League is reportedly seriously considering a move to the United States. Since Lionel Messi has signed a new deal with Inter Miami until 2028, MLS is sure to grow even more and serve as a platform to attract more famous stars.
Rene Meulensteen, former assistant coach at Manchester United, believes Ronaldo genuinely wants to test himself in the MLS and does not rule out the possibility of playing alongside Lionel Messi. He said: "Can you imagine Messi and Ronaldo playing on the same team in Miami? I think he would really enjoy going there." However, Meulensteen also emphasized that Los Angeles, close to Hollywood, might be a better fit for Ronaldo’s personality.
The MLS currently has a strong growth foundation thanks to a younger generation of fans who prefer soccer over traditional sports. Meulensteen commented: "MLS has truly exploded because they have an entire generation passionate about football." This also explains why the American market appeals to Ronaldo. He believes moving to other leagues holds less attraction for CR7, while Hollywood offers much greater exposure, making Los Angeles an ideal destination.
Former German international Dietmar Hamann also believes MLS is a suitable environment for Ronaldo in the twilight of his career. He stated: "He needs to do what Messi did, meaning shine on the pitch if he wants to become a top star in America." According to Hamann, American soccer emphasizes entertainment, and Ronaldo could still create a special story if he chooses to move to the MLS.
Louis Saha, a former teammate at Manchester United, even claimed Ronaldo would have scored more goals than Messi had he joined the MLS earlier. In the near future, Inter Miami might change its roster as veterans Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suarez edge closer to retirement. If Ronaldo doesn’t go to Miami, the prospect of him partnering with Son Heung Min at LAFC is also very intriguing.
Will Cristiano Ronaldo choose to join Messi in Miami or head towards the Hollywood spotlight?
