Matheus Cunha emphasizes that he joined Manchester United not merely to score, but with an intense ambition to return the "Red Devils" to their legendary prime that enchanted fans globally.
The Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha asserts that he came to Manchester United not solely to score goals but also carrying the aspiration to “bring the team back to the peak like during Sir Alex Ferguson’s golden years.”
Joining the “Red Devils” in the summer transfer window for £62.5 million, Cunha quickly proved his worth with impressive performances under coach Ruben Amorim. Despite being compared by the British media to the legend Eric Cantona, the 26-year-old forward remains humble.
Cunha told The Sun: “Cantona is a true legend. I still have a lot to achieve before I deserve to be mentioned alongside him. I just want to contribute through my style of play, with all my passion and fighting spirit for this club. If I can do even a fraction of what he did, I will be proud.”
Before arriving at Old Trafford, Cunha troubled Manchester United’s defense while playing for Wolves. He scored and assisted in both victories against the “Red Devils” last season. Because of this, many Man United players admitted they felt relieved when they heard he had joined their team.
Cunha recalled. “When I entered the locker room, some teammates joked that they were happy I was now on their side. That made me feel welcomed and helped me integrate quickly.”
Despite his impressive start, the Brazilian striker keeps his feet on the ground: “I’m not a superstar. I have bad days and doubts like everyone else. But I always choose to stay positive. I just want to perform my role well and help rebuild the dream of Man United, the team that once amazed the world.”
Man United currently holds a four-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League, sitting temporarily in 8th place. If they beat Tottenham this weekend, the “Red Devils” could return to the top 4, and with Cunha’s form, fans have good reasons to believe in the team’s real revival.
