The Magpies initially took the lead at the Gtech Community Stadium; however, the Bees responded by scoring three goals with Igor Thiago netting twice.

After the match, the England international shared his disappointment with the outcome, but remains optimistic that the international break will help Newcastle regain their momentum.

"Hopefully (the international break) gives us some time to regroup afterwards, work hard, and fine-tune the details. We need to start strong once the break is over,” Barnes told the club’s website.

"It’s difficult to understand the difference (between the Premier League and Champions League performances). There really shouldn’t be one.

"The results shouldn’t vary as much as they do. Hopefully, this break allows us to reflect and reset before the upcoming games."
