Amid rumors of interest from Manchester United, midfielder Adam Wharton insists he is unconcerned, while Crystal Palace rushes to negotiate a new contract to retain their key player.
In response to numerous reports that Manchester United is pursuing Adam Wharton, the young star of Crystal Palace calmly and maturely addressed the situation. The 21-year-old midfielder confirmed he is not distracted by transfer rumors and said he is focused solely on performing at his best for his current club.
“Every day there are rumors. Today it’s Manchester United, tomorrow it could be Real Madrid. I have no idea where they get their information from. I just concentrate on training and playing for Palace,” Wharton told The Athletic.
The young English talent has been one of the bright spots for the “Eagles” this season. With his ability to control the ball, accurate long passes, and tactical intelligence beyond his years, Wharton quickly became a key figure in the midfield under coach Oliver Glasner. His impressive form has attracted attention from several top clubs, including Manchester United, who are seeking more creativity in midfield.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Crystal Palace has already recognized Wharton's importance and is working on extending his contract long-term. “Palace is very pleased with Wharton. They have had multiple discussions with his agent and want to finalize a new deal as soon as possible,” Romano revealed.
Meanwhile, coach Ruben Amorim is planning to overhaul the midfield after failing to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton. Wharton is among six targets the Portuguese coach aims to acquire in the upcoming January transfer window.
However, with his professional attitude and consistent performances at Palace, the likelihood of Wharton leaving Selhurst Park is low. He is considered to be in an ideal environment for development before making further career moves in the future.
If he continues his strong performances, Adam Wharton could easily become one of England’s top central midfielders in the coming years.
