2026 World Cup: Host Cities, Venues, and Stadiums
For the first time ever, the 2026 World Cup will be held across three nations. BC Place in Vancouver and Hard Rock Stadium in Miami are nearly 4,500 kilometres apart. To minimize travel burdens, the 16 stadiums are grouped into three regions.

Arlington (Texas, USA) – AT&T Stadium
Known as Dallas Stadium during the World Cup, AT&T Stadium has been the home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys since 2009. Although associated with Dallas, this 94,000-seat venue is actually in Arlington, west of Dallas. Originally called Cowboys Stadium, naming rights were sold to AT&T in 2013, resulting in the current name.

In 2026, AT&T Stadium will host nine matches, making Arlington the city with the highest number of games. It has previously hosted Gold Cup and Copa América matches.

Atlanta (Georgia, USA) – Mercedes-Benz Stadium
Opened in 2017, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, called Atlanta Stadium during the World Cup, hosts the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons and MLS’s Atlanta United in its 71,000-seat arena. Construction delays occurred due to issues with the roof and circular video board, despite Mercedes-Benz securing naming rights.
The NFL awarded Georgia the Super Bowl in 2019 and 2028. The Premier League played matches in Atlanta’s Summer Series in 2023 and 2025. The 2025 Club World Cup featured six matches here, including Dortmund’s 2-1 win over Monterrey and Bayern’s 2-0 loss to PSG.

East Rutherford (New Jersey, USA) – MetLife Stadium
MetLife Stadium, shared by the New York Giants and Jets since 2010, is located in New Jersey despite both teams carrying New York in their names. FIFA will call it New York-New Jersey Stadium during the World Cup. It seats 82,500 in summer.
Originally intended to be named after German company Allianz, naming rights were given to MetLife due to controversies over Allianz’s Nazi-era history. The stadium’s façade can light up in various colors, a technology inspired by Munich’s Allianz Arena.
Despite cold weather concerns, MetLife Stadium hosted the 2014 Super Bowl. It has also hosted Copa América, Gold Cup, and nine Club World Cup matches in 2025, including semi-finals and the final. In 2026, it will host eight matches, including the final.

Foxborough (Massachusetts, USA) – Gillette Stadium
Gillette Stadium, opened in 2002, is among the older World Cup venues. Located 35 km southwest of Boston, Foxborough is closely tied to the city. FIFA will call it Boston Stadium for the tournament.
Shared by the New England Patriots (NFL) and New England Revolution (MLS), both owned by Robert Kraft, the stadium will hold 65,000 fans during the World Cup after renovations in 2022 and 2023. Outside stands a bronze statue of legendary Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
Foxborough has hosted Gold Cup, Copa América, the 2002 MLS Cup, four matches of the 2003 Women’s World Cup, and the 2016 NHL Winter Classic. It will host seven World Cup matches in 2026.

Guadalupe (Mexico) – Estadio BBVA Bancomer
Top Mexican club CF Monterrey built Estadio BBVA Bancomer in 2011, located in Guadalupe near Monterrey. Initially called Estadio de Futbol Monterrey during construction, naming rights were sold to the bank. FIFA will refer to it as Estadio Monterrey in 2026.
Sustainability was prioritized during construction, with the stadium exceeding green space requirements and blending into the landscape. Fans inside enjoy views of the Cerro de la Silla mountain, rising 1,820 meters above sea level.
Ranked among the world’s ten most beautiful stadiums, it holds 53,500 spectators. Besides CF Monterrey games, it has hosted the Women’s CONCACAF Championship. It will host four World Cup matches in 2026.

Houston (Texas, USA) – NRG Stadium
NRG Stadium in Houston, though not the newest, features a retractable roof ahead of its time. Known as Reliant Stadium until 2014, the naming rights changed when NRG Energy took over. During the World Cup, it will be called Houston Stadium with a 72,000 capacity.
Home to the NFL’s Houston Texans, it has hosted two Super Bowls: the 2004 game famous for Janet Jackson’s incident and the 2017 game that went into overtime. Houston has also hosted Gold Cup and Copa América matches, including the 2025 Gold Cup final. It will host seven World Cup games in 2026.

Inglewood (California, USA) – SoFi Stadium
SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, a city of about 100,000 southwest of Los Angeles, opened in 2020. Home to the LA Rams and Chargers, it will be called Los Angeles Stadium for the World Cup. With construction costs near five billion dollars, it is the world’s most expensive stadium.
The stadium features a lightweight roof over the forecourt and a hanging 360-degree video ring for fan information. It hosted the 2022 Super Bowl and will be a venue for the 2028 Olympics.
Since 2022, it has hosted football matches during the NFL off-season, plus Gold Cup and Copa América games. Arsenal played friendlies here against Barcelona and Manchester United. The stadium will hold eight World Cup matches, with two guaranteed to include the USA.

Kansas City (Missouri, USA) – Arrowhead Stadium
Arrowhead Stadium, opened in 1972, is home to the Kansas City Chiefs. Since renovations from 2007 to 2010, it holds 76,416 fans. The Chiefs have been strong contenders in recent years, winning three Super Bowls. For the World Cup, capacity will be limited to 73,000.
Arrowhead also hosted MLS’s Kansas City Wizards (now Sporting Kansas City) for eleven years before 2007. In 2024, it hosted a special match due to high demand when Lionel Messi and Inter Miami played.

Mexico City (Mexico) – Azteca Stadium
Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium is the second-largest venue for the 2026 World Cup and has hosted historic moments. In 1970, it hosted the opening match, the legendary Germany vs Italy semi-final, and the final where Brazil won their third title in front of 107,412 fans.
The 1986 World Cup returned here, with Maradona’s famous 'Hand of God' goal in the quarter-finals. Argentina defeated West Germany in the final before 114,600 spectators. Renovations since 2024 will reduce capacity to around 90,000 by 2026.
Since opening in 1966, the stadium has been home to Club América and Mexico’s national team. It will be called Mexico City Stadium during the tournament and host five matches, including the opening game on June 11. Two matches will definitely feature Mexico, with two more possible if they top their group.

Miami Gardens (Florida, USA) – Hard Rock Stadium
Hard Rock Stadium hosts multiple sports including football, tennis, baseball, and Formula 1. Since 1987, it has been home to the Miami Dolphins, who hosted six Super Bowls here between 1989 and 2020. The University of Miami has played here since 2008, and the Miami Marlins shared the stadium from 1993 to 2011.
In 2019, the Miami Masters tennis tournaments moved here, with 29 courts built around the venue and a temporary 14,000-seat center court inside. The Miami International Autodrome for Formula 1 is constructed on the stadium’s parking lots and roads.
Miami has hosted regular friendlies since 2011, attracting national teams and top European clubs. The 2025 Club World Cup featured eight matches here, including two Bayern Munich victories. In 2026, temporarily called Miami Stadium, it will host seven matches including the third-place playoff on July 18 before up to 65,000 fans.

Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, USA) – Lincoln Financial Field
Built for the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles, Lincoln Financial Field opened in 2003 with a football match where Manchester United defeated Barcelona 3-1 on August 3. Unlike most stadiums, it is owned by the city of Philadelphia, with the Eagles operating its 69,000 seats. FIFA will call it Philadelphia Stadium.

Lincoln Financial Field regularly hosts matches from the Gold Cup and Copa América. It held eight Club World Cup matches in 2025, including Flamengo’s surprise 3-1 win over Chelsea. In 2026, Philadelphia will host six World Cup matches, including a round of 16 game but no round of 32 matches.

Santa Clara (California, USA) – Levi's Stadium
Levi’s Stadium, opened in 2014, is one of the newest venues for the 2026 World Cup. Home to the San Francisco 49ers, it is located about 72 km southeast of San Francisco. FIFA refers to it as San Francisco Bay Area Stadium to reflect the broader metropolitan area.
The stadium will accommodate 71,000 fans for the World Cup, temporarily increasing from its usual 68,500. It is one of the largest environmentally friendly buildings in the US, featuring a 2,500 square meter green roof and 1,850 square meters of solar panels.
Levi’s Stadium will host the Super Bowl again in 2026, as it did in 2016. Although it has no Club World Cup history, it has hosted many football matches recently and will hold six World Cup games.

Seattle (Washington, USA) – Lumen Field
Since opening in 2002, the stadium has undergone several name changes: Seahawks Stadium, Qwest Field, CenturyLink Field, and currently Lumen Field since 2020. Due to FIFA rules against sponsored names, it will be called Seattle Stadium in 2026.
Lumen Field hosts both American football and soccer. The NFL’s Seattle Seahawks play before 68,740 fans, MLS’s Seattle Sounders draw up to 37,722, and since 2022 the women’s team Seattle Reign FC plays here, usually with 10,000 capacity. The World Cup will use the NFL seating capacity.
At the 2025 Club World Cup, the stadium hosted six FIFA matches, twice with over 50,000 attendees and once with fewer than 12,000. The goal for 2026 is to fill the stadium for all six World Cup matches.

Toronto (Canada) – BMO Field
Opened in 2007, BMO Field was Canada’s first stadium built specifically for soccer. Initially with artificial turf, then natural grass, Toronto FC has played on hybrid turf since 2019. The stadium is shared with Canada’s national soccer and rugby teams and the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts since 2016.
Though officially seating 30,000 (expandable to 40,000), FIFA plans for a 45,000 capacity at Toronto Stadium, which would set a new record surpassing the 40,148 attendance during the 2017 NHL event.
As a dedicated soccer venue, Toronto has hosted international events including the 2007 U20 World Cup and 2014 U20 Women’s World Cup. It will host six matches in 2026, including Canada’s opening game.

Vancouver (Canada) – BC Place Stadium
BC Place Stadium is the only venue permitted to retain its name for the 2026 World Cup, though FIFA will add "Vancouver" and drop "Stadium." Capacity remains at 54,320, though this is mainly for Canadian football. The MLS Vancouver Whitecaps, featuring Thomas Müller, usually play before about 21,000 fans.
BC Place was a venue for the 2010 Winter Olympics, hosting the opening and closing ceremonies indoors — a first — and medal ceremonies, but no competitions.
Vancouver has hosted major events including nine matches at the 2015 Women’s World Cup, where the USA defeated Japan 5-2 in the final. In 2026, it will host seven matches, with two guaranteed to feature Canada and potentially two more if Canada wins its group.

Zapopan (Mexico) – Estadio Akron
Estadio Akron is situated in Zapopan, west of Guadalajara. FIFA will name it Estadio Guadalajara during the World Cup. Its sunken design, with the field below ground and only the roof visible externally, earned it the nickname “El volcán” (the volcano).

Deportivo Guadalajara plays home games here before 46,355 fans. FIFA plans to increase capacity to 48,000 for the World Cup. The stadium has hosted only three Mexican national team friendlies so far. Two World Cup playoff matches will take place here in March. It is the only stadium hosting exclusively group stage matches at the World Cup.
