For a Burnley team lacking confidence following three straight losses, managing to survive the first 15 minutes against a Brentford side that is strong at home was an achievement in itself.

However, Burnley had little else to cheer in the opening stages, as Brentford kept them mostly trapped in their own half, with Mikel Damsgaard nearly finding the unmarked Igor Thiago inside the box. Yet, to many’s surprise, he could only direct his effort wide of the post.

Damsgaard proved hard for the Clarets to contain, and it was only after his 20-yard shot skimmed just over the crossbar that Burnley finally stirred. In the 35th minute, Axel Tuanzebe had what seemed a good chance for Burnley to take the lead, but he shot straight at Caoimhin Kelleher.

The former Manchester United player was offside anyway, but Burnley ended the half strongly when Zian Flemming’s effort from the edge of the area forced Kelleher into a routine save.

Whatever Keith Andrews said during the break worked for Brentford, who began the second half on the attack. They found the net through Igor Thiago, but the goal was disallowed due to Dango Ouatarra being offside during the buildup.

Ouatarra nearly scored himself shortly after, narrowly missing with a header as pressure mounted on the Burnley goal. Chances kept coming for the Bees, with Thiago next to squander a good opportunity by slicing his shot over from inside the box when he should have at least tested the goalkeeper.

Brentford were handed a perfect chance late on when Tuanzebe’s careless foul resulted in a penalty. Thiago stepped up from 12 yards and calmly converted — but the Bees faced a setback soon after as they conceded a penalty of their own.

Jaidon Anthony was clipped by Michael Kayode in the box, and Flemming took responsibility to equalize from the spot.

The game still had one final twist, with Thiago determined to have the last word, blasting a powerful shot into the top corner to secure three well-earned points for Brentford.

Meanwhile, it was another heavy blow for Burnley, who remain in the bottom three and will undoubtedly be wondering where their next points will come from as their woes deepened in stoppage time when Ouattara added a third goal.
