In a clash between two managers appointed earlier in November, Paolo Vanoli was also aiming for his first victory as Fiorentina head coach.
Keen to impress their new manager, the visitors nearly had a perfect start within five minutes, withAtalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi first blocking Moise Kean’s shot and then making an excellent reflex save to stop Roberto Piccoli from the rebound.
His counterpart, David De Gea, was then forced into action in the 13th minute, saving a powerful shot from Charles De Ketelaere to his left.

The former Spain international then denied Davide Zappacosta from a tight angle after Ademola Lookman’s pass in the 27th minute broke through the Fiorentina defence. Approaching halftime, Carnesecchi saved a one-on-one from Piccoli, and De Gea pushed an 18-yard shot from De Ketelaere wide.
However, the Fiorentina keeper was helpless against the opening goal four minutes before halftime, whenOdilon Kossounou’s curling shot from the edge of the box fooled De Gea and found the far corner, marking the Ivorian’s first goal for La Dea.
Kean should have equalized shortly after the break, but he mishit a close-range volley that went straight into Carnesecchi’s arms.
That missed chance proved costly as Atalanta secured only their fourth home Serie A win in 2025 when Fiorentina failed to clear a corner in the 51st minute and Lookman was quick to fire the loose ball into the net – the 11th set-piece goal conceded by the visitors this season.
With Palladino’s team controlling the game, De Gea made a twisting save to deny Marten De Roon’s glancing header. Among the visitors, Kean was most determined to make an impact, having a header cleared off the line by Gianluca Scamacca and then hitting the post 14 minutes from time.
Despite his efforts, Fiorentina could not get back into the match, remaining winless (D6, L7), sitting second from bottom in the table, five points from safety, while Atalanta climbed two spots to 11th.
