Both teams started awkwardly, largely due to Girona’s very defensive tactics. The first notable chance came when Real Madrid’s Arda Guler sent a shot narrowly wide, while Kylian Mbappe missed a good opportunity shortly after by shooting over despite having a clear chance.

As the match opened up, the home side tried to involve Byran Gil whenever possible, though the Spaniard was often careless with possession. Vinicius Junior repeatedly squandered chances at one end, while Viktor Tsygankov registered the game’s first on-target shot at the other end.

Los Blancos dominated possession as the half progressed but were frequently inaccurate in their final passes. When they did connect well, such as with a powerful Eder Militao header, Girona’s Paulo Gazzaniga made an extraordinary reflex save.

Mbappe believed he had put Real ahead with a scrappy strike just before halftime, but a VAR check ruled the goal out for handball. And, in the final moments of the first half,Azzedine Ounahi delivered a curling shot that left Thibaut Courtois frozen in place.

As expected, Real took control early in the second half, although Girona’s two defensive lines of four made it challenging.

Courtois’ stunning save from Vladyslav Vanat kept Real in the match near the hour mark, and only an offside call prevented Vinicius from equalizing as Madrid began to find their rhythm.

The Brazilian then won a penalty after being fouled by Hugo Rincon, which Mbappe calmly converted.

Vitor Reis missed a clear header and, as the game became scrappy, both Mbappe and Vinicius failed to capitalize on good opportunities.

In the final minutes, both teams came close but couldn’t find a winner. This result means Girona have drawn four of the six league matches in which they scored first this season (with two wins), although the point earned against stronger opposition leaves them only outside the relegation zone on goal difference.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid remain just one point behind league leaders Barcelona after 14 rounds, as the title race grows increasingly competitive.
