Vietnam sets a super record that all of Southeast Asia must admire

Vietnam stands as the sole Southeast Asian nation to clear the qualifying rounds of all continental competitions in 2025.

The Vietnam U17 team was the last Vietnamese squad to begin their Asian qualifiers in 2025. After thorough preparation over time, Coach Cristiano Roland's team is expected to become the sixth Vietnamese team to participate in the continental final tournaments next year, following the senior women's team, U23 national team, men's futsal team, U20 women's team, and U17 women's team.

Ultimately, the Vietnam U17 team did not disappoint fans by flawlessly passing the qualifiers with five wins, scoring 30 goals and conceding none. The campaign concluded with a convincing 4-0 victory over Malaysia, showcasing the clear quality gap between the two sides.

With this achievement, the U17 team helped Vietnam become the only Southeast Asian country to advance through every Asian qualifying round held in 2025, including the women's Asian Cup qualifiers, U20 women's Asian qualifiers, U17 women's Asian qualifiers, U23 Asian qualifiers, U17 Asian qualifiers, women's futsal Asian qualifiers, and men's futsal Asian qualifiers.

Among these, all six Vietnamese teams that took part in these qualifiers topped their groups with perfect winning records. Only the men's and women's futsal teams conceded goals. Meanwhile, the U23, U17, U20 women, U17 women, and senior women's teams all advanced without conceding a single goal throughout their campaigns.

This feat of passing every Asian qualifying round in 2025 is an unprecedented record in Southeast Asian football history. Across Asia, only Japan has managed the same in 2025.

Vietnamese football still faces one crucial qualifier ending in March 2026—the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. The Vietnam national team will face Malaysia in the final match, currently trailing by 3 points and having lost 0-4 in the first leg. However, if the first leg is awarded as a win to Vietnam due to Malaysia fielding an ineligible naturalized player, Vietnam’s national team will have definitely secured a spot in the 2027 Asian Cup finals.
