After temporarily parting ways with Vietnam U17, coach Roland will return to his duties at Hanoi FC.
Vietnam U17's perfect record of five wins in the 2026 AFC U17 qualifiers owes much to coach Cristiano Roland. The Brazilian strategist developed an attacking, elegant, and attractive style of play that remained highly effective. While the offense was dynamic, Vietnam U17’s defense was equally solid, keeping a clean sheet throughout.
Currently, coach Cristiano Roland is still affiliated with the Hanoi Youth Football Training Center. It is known that after completing the 2026 AFC U17 qualifiers with Vietnam U17, Roland will immediately resume his youth training work in Hanoi.
After the match, he shared: "I have fulfilled my goals and completed my mission with the Vietnam U17 team. Tomorrow, I will return to Hanoi FC to prepare for the U19 team with 14 days before the National U19 Championship. I am happy, but tomorrow marks a new challenge."
Coach Cristiano Roland emphasizes his special affection for Vietnamese football: “I want the best for Vietnam, for Vietnamese football. I am here out of love and commitment to Vietnam’s development. At this moment, the most important thing is that I am very happy and satisfied. The players have done everything I asked and trusted what I taught. I am grateful to the fans who came to the stadium."
In July 2024, coach Roland was appointed head coach of Vietnam U16, becoming the first foreign coach to lead this youth team. Just months later, he impressively guided his squad through the AFC U17 qualifiers by defeating Japan, Kyrgyzstan, and Myanmar all by 1-0, securing a place in the finals.
At the 2025 AFC U17 Championship finals, Vietnam U17 performed impressively, drawing against strong teams like UAE, Japan, and Australia but failed to advance to the World Cup. Continuing to be trusted to lead Vietnam U17 in 2025, coach Roland has proven to be the best fit for this age group.
