Winner: Flamengo

Who else could be the highlight this week but Flamengo? The Rio de Janeiro team held Palmeiras at bay to secure victory in the Copa Libertadores final and lift the trophy. Danilo’s goal in the 67th minute made this achievement possible.

Flamengo now has four titles, strengthening their legacy in the South American Championship. After a strong performance in the Club World Cup this summer (reaching the round of 16, losing 4-2 to Bayern), the squad continues their campaign with much to celebrate.

Loser: PSG

They nearly lost their lead in Ligue 1. PSG traveled to Monaco for the 14th league round, expecting a positive result. However, things went awry. Faced with a resolute Monaco team, the Parisians conceded a vital goal to Takumi Minamino.

Consequently, the capital club left without points and risked being surpassed by Olympique de Marseille. They were spared only because Marseille drew 2-2 with Toulouse. Nevertheless, PSG’s display is a warning ahead of their home fixture against Rennes next Saturday. Meanwhile, Lens took advantage and now leads Ligue 1.

Winner: Heidenheim

Heidenheim players witnessed a dramatic ending against Union Berlin on Saturday. Trailing for most of the game, the visitors turned the tide in stoppage time. Stefan Schimmer netted the first goal of the comeback in the 90th minute, and Jan Schoppner sealed the victory in the 96th minute.

This win moves Heidenheim just one point above the relegation zone (8 points, 16th place), a vital step in their battle to stay up.

Loser: Verona

It’s a difficult period for Verona. The Italian club began December poorly, suffering another loss, this time against Genoa (2-1). The Gialloblu have yet to secure a single victory this season and remain at the bottom of the Serie A table in 20th place. This is a troubling situation for a team that finished 14th last year.

Winner: Viking FK

Celebrations erupted in Norway for Viking FK! The club defeated Valerenga 5-1 and finally won the national title after a 34-year wait. They overtook Bodo/Glimt, largely thanks to outstanding performances from Edvin Austbo, Martin Ove Roseth, Zlatko Tripic, Kristoffer Haugen, and Kristoffer Askildsen.

Loser: Troy Parrot

A harsh setback for the AZ Alkmaar player. He stepped up against Twente on Sunday but failed to capitalize in the final moments. The Irishman had an opportunity to turn a likely 1-0 loss into a draw but missed. Facing the goalkeeper, he tried a panenka but completely missed, sending the ball far over the crossbar.

Winner: Anderlecht

Anderlecht enjoyed a significant victory over Union Saint-Gilloise. The Mauves managed to overcome their rivals and finally win the derby 1-0 - a feat they hadn’t accomplished since April 14, 2024.

Additionally, Club Brugge lost their match this week, moving Anderlecht up to third place in the Jupiler Pro League, just one point behind Brugge.

Loser: Fiorentina

Like their rivals Verona, Fiorentina are struggling at the bottom of Serie A after 13 matches without a win. La Viola suffered another defeat on Sunday, this time to Atalanta (2-0), and appear unable to break out of their slump. They sit just above Verona due to goal difference (-11 versus -12), but the team remains in trouble.
