Wirtz has found it difficult to adapt to the British football environment and the challenges of the English Premier League, failing to make the expected impact on Liverpool's performances following his transfer to the Merseyside club for £116 million on a five-year contract.

Wirtz returned from injury as Liverpool secured a 2-0 victory away at West Ham on Sunday, ending a series of disappointing results that caused them to lose crucial ground to league leaders Arsenal and slip to 8th place in the Premier League standings.

Bayern Munich has started the season almost flawlessly with excellent showings in both the Bundesliga and Champions League, yet there remains resentment at "Saberner Strasse" because the German star chose to commit his future to Liverpool instead of the German record champions, who according to Hoeness, would have offered Wirtz the perfect environment to thrive, unlike Arne Slot's struggling team.

Hoeness did not hold back in his critique of Liverpool’s mistakes during an event in Munich over the weekend, particularly targeting their handling of Wirtz’s integration.

"Slot clearly made promises to him that he has not fulfilled. He said Wirtz would get the number 10 shirt and that a new team would be built around him. That’s nonsense. He got number 7 and they don’t play the team around Florian Wirtz at all."

"I feel deeply sorry for Wirtz. At Leverkusen, he received every pass. At Liverpool, he gets only five passes in a half, and if he loses two, he is rated poorly," Uli Hoeness stated, according to German media outlet SID.

Bild also reported Hoeness saying: "They spent €500 million and are having a disastrous season. In my view, that’s because they only have superstars. They have only leaders and no hard workers."

Arne Slot was questioned about Wirtz during his post-match press conference after the West Ham game and expressed admiration for the German’s contribution:

"We tried to create an additional midfielder role, and he was crucial in achieving that. He was effective when dribbling and excellent with his one-touch passes. We had many promising moments, and he was involved in many of them. A good performance."
