Bonmati sustained the fracture while training with Spain's national squad on Sunday.

"Examinations conducted on Monday confirmed a fracture of the fibula in her left ankle," Barcelona stated in an official release.

On Sunday, reports from Catalan media indicated she could be sidelined for over three months if surgery was necessary.

The three-time Ballon d'Or awardee will be absent from Tuesday’s second leg of the women's Nations League final against Germany and will miss several upcoming club fixtures.

Bonmati was in the starting lineup for Spain last Friday during a 0-0 stalemate with Germany in the first leg of the Nations League final.

She is expected to miss the forthcoming Champions League matches against Benfica and Paris FC in December, along with the Spanish Super Cup in January and several Liga F fixtures.
