Doan Van Hau delivered an excellent comeback performance, regardless of CAHN losing the win to Buriram United.
During the match between Buriram United and CAHN in the 4th round of Group A in the Shopee Cup 2025/26, coach Mano Polking decisively included Doan Van Hau in the starting lineup, giving the 1999-born star a chance to return after more than two years out with various injuries.
Repaying the trust of the Brazilian coach, Van Hau put in an impressive individual performance. Facing Buriram’s strong attacking line, he showed confidence and repeatedly neutralized dangerous offensive moves. The former Hanoi FC player demonstrated solid defensive skills through good anticipation and readiness to engage in critical moments on the pitch.
Beyond defending, Van Hau actively participated in ball progression. Despite not playing for over two years, the 26-year-old displayed excellent passing accuracy, both in short passes and long balls, helping create chances for his teammates up front.
This is a very encouraging sign for CAHN’s coaching staff, who have patiently awaited Van Hau’s recovery. Based on his performance throughout the 90 minutes at Chang Arena, Van Hau is likely to earn the confidence of coach Mano Polking in competing for a starting spot in CAHN’s defense, where the team already has many quality players.
Moreover, Van Hau’s return is also good news for coach Kim Sang Sik and the Vietnam national team. If he maintains good condition until March next year, when the final round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers takes place, there is no reason to prevent Van Hau from making his first national team appearance since June 2023. At that time, coach Kim Sang Sik will have more confidence in helping the "Golden Dragons" defeat Malaysia and dream of turning the tide to qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup finals.
For now, Van Hau and his CAHN teammates will return to Vietnam before traveling to Hong Kong to prepare for the final Group E match in the AFC Champions League Two against Tai Po.
