Unai Simón had to make two quick saves to deny Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior following shaky defending from his teammates early on.
However, the goalkeeper was powerless to prevent Mbappé in the seventh minute, as the French forward received Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pass, slipped past Iñigo Lekue, cut inside Aymeric Laporte, and blasted the ball beyond Simón.
Gorka Guruzeta fired over from a Nico Williams cross as the home side looked for a reply, but Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior continued to threaten on the counter.
Guruzeta then saw a fierce shot saved by Thibaut Courtois, who also made a brilliant block to deny Álex Berenguer around the 30-minute mark. Vinícius Júnior broke behind Ernesto Valverde’s defense twice soon after but first struck the post from a narrow angle and then was denied by Simón.
Los Blancos secured their second goal before halftime when Alexander-Arnold’s cross was headed back across the goal by Mbappé for Eduardo Camavinga to finish with a header.
Valverde made two substitutions before the second half began, and although Mbappé had a shot within 30 seconds, it wasn’t long before Courtois had to tip over a bold effort from Mikel Jauregizar as the hosts kept pressing.
Despite the goalkeeper’s efforts, Los Blancos suffered a setback when Alexander-Arnold left the field injured in the 55th minute.
A confrontation occurred between the teams following an incident involving Mbappé and Adama Boiro, but the Frenchman remained unfazed, soon firing a daring long-range shot past Simón.

Camavinga also had to be substituted due to injury after attempting to continue following a challenge from Berenguer, but Guruzeta missed his late chances asReal Madrid ended a streak of three consecutive draws in LaLiga convincingly, keeping them just one point behind league leaders Barcelona.
They also handedAthletic Club their fourth defeat in six league games, leaving the hosts in eighth place for now.
