(Football results) - Chelsea endured a frustrating evening at Elland Road after a 1-3 defeat to Leeds, widening the distance to the top team Arsenal by 9 points.
In the early hours of December 4 (Vietnam time), Chelsea traveled to Elland Road to face Leeds as part of the 14th round of the 2025/26 Premier League season. However, Enzo Maresca’s squad experienced a night to forget, suffering a 1-3 loss and falling behind in the title race.
Chelsea started slower than the home side and paid the price early. In the 6th minute, from a corner kick taken by Anton Stach, Jaka Bijol rose high to deliver a powerful header into the left corner of the net, putting Leeds ahead 1-0. The early goal boosted Daniel Farke’s team, while The Blues struggled to build their play.
Leeds continued to be effective on transitions. In the 43rd minute, Ao Tanaka received the ball near the penalty area and fired a sharp shot straight into the right corner, increasing the lead to 2-0. Chelsea tried to respond through efforts from Delap, Estêvão, and Enzo Fernandez, but their shots were either off target or blocked by Leeds’ defense.
In the second half, Enzo Maresca made personnel changes by bringing on Pedro Neto and Malo Gusto. The substitutions had an immediate impact. In the 50th minute, Joao Pedro delivered a precise cross for Neto to break free and score decisively, cutting the deficit to 1-2 and reigniting hope for the visitors.
However, Chelsea couldn’t maintain their momentum. Insecure play at the back repeatedly put them under pressure. It was inevitable: in the 72nd minute, Dominic Calvert-Lewin capitalized on a Chelsea defensive error to score from close range, making it 3-1 and crushing The Blues’ efforts.
Towards the end, Chelsea pushed forward but failed to break through Leeds’ defense, despite notable chances for Palmer and Garnacho. The 1-3 defeat leaves Chelsea in 4th place, 9 points behind league leaders Arsenal, putting them at a disadvantage in the title race.
