The Ligue 1 club has suspended Emegha, reportedly because of recent comments he made about the team and the city. According to L'Equipe, Emegha stated Strasbourg lost matches against stronger teams due to his injury and that before transferring from Sturm Graz, he believed Strasbourg was located in Germany.

On Wednesday, Strasbourg announced that the club had imposed a one-match suspension on captain Emegha for his remarks, meaning he will miss Saturday's matchPaul Winters with Toulouse.

The Dutch forward apologized for his comments in an Instagram post, acknowledging and accepting the suspension.

"I'm 22 years old, I've made errors, and I realize I still have much to learn. I must take lessons from this," Emegha said.

"I know I have to improve, and I will improve, both on and off the field, to represent the club properly. That means a lot to me."

Emegha is playing his final matches for Strasbourg before transferring to Chelsea in the summer of 2026. Fans have criticized manager Liam Rosenior’s choice to give Emegha the captaincy. Nevertheless, the striker remains proud to be the club captain.

"I want to clarify that I never meant to offend anyone. Since joining at 19, I have always given my all for Strasbourg. I am proud to play for Racing and honored to wear the captain's armband.

"Last weekend, stepping onto the pitch was the most emotional moment I've experienced as a Strasbourg player. The applause when I entered, the kids cheering during warm-up... it deeply touched me. Thank you sincerely."

The two-time Dutch international mentioned meeting club owner Marc Keller, whom he thanked for his guidance, and said he will support the team during this weekend’s Ligue 1 fixture in Toulouse.

"Sometimes my words might be misinterpreted, especially if you don’t know me well. But one thing is clear: I have the highest respect for Strasbourg, Alsace, La Meinau, our fans, my teammates, and the entire club. On Saturday, I will be fully behind the team like a fan giving 200%."
