Coach Ruben Amorim: 'I am very disappointed and angry, that's all.'

Manchester United's coach Ruben Amorim was visibly frustrated and disappointed after his team was held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham United at Old Trafford, in a game where the "Red Devils" were just steps away from a complete win.

The West Ham draw not only disappointed the fans but also cost Man United the chance to push forward in the race for a top 5 finish in the Premier League.

In this match, MU started dominantly and created numerous chances throughout the first half, but only broke the deadlock in the second half thanks to a goal from Diogo Dalot. That goal seemed to pave the way for a second consecutive home win and to boost the team’s morale. However, as the game approached its final minutes, Man United’s defense failed to withstand the pressure from the visitors.

In the 83rd minute, Soungoutou Magassa scored his first Premier League goal to equalize for West Ham, extinguishing the hopes of the Old Trafford side to claim all three points. This late goal was like a blow to Man United’s ambitions, leaving them stuck in eighth place and missing the golden opportunity to climb to fifth in the standings.

Speaking after the match to Sky Sports, Ruben Amorim expressed his frustration: “I am disappointed and angry. That’s it.” He then elaborated further: “We should have finished the game once we scored the first goal. We controlled the match but failed to keep possession well after leading. Any set-piece could cause trouble, and we didn’t manage those crucial moments properly.”

The Portuguese coach also admitted issues in midfield battles and control: “We lost the ball twice, they won it once. We could have done much better. Sometimes the players’ performance inside the box is not enough.”

This draw once again shows that Man United still have a lot of work to do if they want to truly contend for the top spots. For Amorim, today’s anger might serve as a catalyst for necessary changes, but time is not on their side, and every slip now could come at a high cost.
