Manchester United supporters took to social media en masse to express their feelings following the Red Devils' stalemate against West Ham.
In the early hours of December 5 (Vietnam time), Man United hosted West Ham at Old Trafford aiming to extend their winning streak in the Premier League.
In the previous round, coach Ruben Amorim’s team regained confidence by beating Crystal Palace 2-1 after a loss to Everton. Meanwhile, West Ham continued their struggles with a 0-2 defeat to Liverpool at London Stadium.
In the lively atmosphere at Old Trafford, both teams started cautiously. The first half was tightly contested with few clear chances as both defenses stayed focused.
In the second half, Man United pushed forward to find the opener. Their efforts paid off in the 58th minute when defender Diogo Dalot neatly finished inside the box.
Just when victory seemed within reach, West Ham unexpectedly equalized in the 84th minute. Soungoutou Magassa capitalized on a chance inside the penalty area to score, silencing the Old Trafford crowd. The visitors then defended resolutely to preserve the 1-1 draw, earning a valuable point while disappointment engulfed the home fans.
On social media, many Man United fans criticized coach Amorim’s substitution choices, especially bringing Manuel Ugarte on for Matheus Cunha in the 77th minute. Numerous voices claimed that whenever the Uruguayan midfielder entered late in games, Man United lost control and often conceded goals.
One supporter complained: “Whenever Ugarte comes on, the team concedes...”
Another wrote angrily: “Ugarte’s entry ruins the entire match.”
A different fan shared: “Every time Ugarte is subbed in late, Man United ends up conceding.”
Some comments were even harsher: “Amorim should be fired just for putting Ugarte on instead of Mainoo in a match like this.”
Another sarcastically remarked: “Ugarte plays 10 minutes, the team concedes — it’s a familiar story now.”
One fan concluded: “As soon as Ugarte appears, Man United loses full control of the game. When will he learn from this?”
Commenting on Sky Sports, former star Gary Neville also expressed doubts about Amorim’s personnel changes. He said: “When leading 1-0 but losing control of the game, you are never truly safe. And that scenario unfolded. Amorim’s substitutions were supposed to protect the lead...”
This draw only moved Man United up one place to 8th with 22 points, while West Ham continued their decline, sitting second from bottom with just 12 points.
In the next round, the Red Devils will visit Molineux to face Wolves.
