Malaysian fans unanimously react as Xuân Son scores a classy hat-trick

Xuân Son’s outstanding hat-trick against Shan United has stirred up the Malaysian fan community, who collectively voiced worries over the returning power of Vietnam’s football.

The 3-0 victory of Thép Xanh Nam Định over Shan United in the second round of the ASEAN Club Championship 2025/26 not only helped the Vietnamese team secure the top spot in the group but also caught significant attention from Malaysian football fans. The highlight of all discussions was Xuân Son’s stellar performance, scoring all three superb goals in his comeback at the regional club competition.

Immediately after the match, Malaysian social media exploded with debates. Many showed excitement mixed with concern over Xuân Son’s highly convincing form. One Malaysian fan frankly said: “Let’s see what the player that Vietnamese fans call a monster can do in the upcoming match against Malaysia.”

Another opinion was more cautious: “He is truly talented, but that was only against a Myanmar team. Facing stronger opponents, I’m not sure he will shine that easily.”

On the other hand, some fans highly praised the striker’s return: “Vietnam has regained their most important player. They will definitely be much stronger when facing us.”

In fact, one Malaysian fan even expressed envy: “If Malaysia had a player like Xuân Son, it would be amazing. Vietnam patiently waited for him, while we were impatient.”

It is clear that most Malaysian fans were captivated by Xuân Son’s brilliant display, while also openly expressing concern as Vietnam’s national team prepares to face their squad in the second leg of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers scheduled for March next year.

Nam Định experienced a frustrating first half until a turning point at the 45th minute when Văn Vĩ earned a penalty. Xuân Son calmly converted it, relieving pressure on the Nam Định team. In the second half, the Vietnamese striker continued to prove his class by charging forward to score a second goal following a precise cross from Brenner.

When Shan United was reduced to ten men due to a red card shown to Mark Sekyi, the game became even easier, and Xuân Son completed his hat-trick with a decisive spinning shot inside the penalty area. This was his 92nd goal in the Vietnamese football system, including club and national team levels, along with 18 assists—figures that demonstrate his outstanding influence.

Winning 3-0 and securing 6 points from two consecutive victories, Nam Định continues to lead the group and is well positioned to advance to the next round. This indicates that the Vietnamese representative is growing more confident in asserting its status at this year’s ASEAN Club Championship.
